The Truly Orthodox Anglicans
the Rt. Rev. Sergio Carranza, Asst. Bishop of the Diocese of Los Angeles
Here we are, just a few months away from the Lambeth Conference and we find ourselves in an impasse: the Bishop of New Hampshire without an invitation to attend the meeting, the poachers from the Global South hunting in the U.S.A. and Canada, the schismatics trying to steal TEC's property, the Nigerian post-colonial neo-crusader-in-reverse uttering threats, and the Archbishop of Canterbury giving the impression that he is willing to sacrifice the Episcopal Church in order to appease the radical conservatives and thus maintain the unity of an already fractured Anglican Communion.

Who Has the Power ?
by Lisa Fox, in consultation with the Rev. Canon Robert J. Brooks
Who has the power to expel the Episcopal Church from the Anglican Communion? Despite those who want TEC to be denied membership, few are paying any attention to the actual process required for that to become a reality. This essay, written by former director of government relations for The Episcopal Church, The Rev. Canon Robert J. Brooks, was originally posted on the website of The Episcopal Majority.

Interpreting the Proposed Anglican Covenant
the Rev. Dr. Katherine Grieb
The Primates of the Anglican Communion have given the House of Bishops of The Episcopal Church until September 30, 2007, to enforce a moratorium on the election as bishop of any person living in a same-sex relationship, and to promise to end the blessing of same-sex couples.
"The Primates are acting in an unprecedented way...as if the Proposed Anglican Covenant process had been completed and the document already ratified by all the provinces," says The Rev. Dr. Katherine Grieb, Associate Professor of New Testament at Virginia Theological Seminary and one of The Episcopal Church's representatives to the international covenant drafting committee.
Why the Proposed Anglican Covenant is behind the Primates' demands for the House of Bishops to consider at its meeting in New Orleans, September 20 to 25, 2007, and the implications of a covenant for the future of The Episcopal Church are laid out in full by Professor Grieb in her presentation to the House of Bishops in March, 2007.

Primates and Parable
by Gordon W. Gritter, The Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real
I am concerned about the increasingly steamy rhetoric we are seeing here, much of which arises out of inappropriate notions that we are in a struggle between two - and only two -- forces within the Anglican Communion.

Let's be Honest
by the Rev. Lauren R. Stanley
So what did you do in your bedroom last night?
For all the wrong reasons, that question seems to be at the heart of the disputes that are threatening to tear apart not just the Episcopal Church of the Unites States, but also the worldwide Anglican Communion, of which the Episcopal Church is a part.
The Rev. Lauren R. Stanley is an appointed missionary serving in the Diocese of Renk in the Episcopal Church of Sudan. She is temporarily serving in the United States.

Chicago's New Episcopal Bishop Speaks Up for Gay Clergy
Manya A. Brachear, the Chicago Tribune
Chicago's new Episcopal bishop and the church's national leader sent a clear message Sunday about where they stand on gay clergy, a smoldering issue that threatens to tear apart the denomination.
Wrapping up a five-day tour in honor of Jeffrey Lee, the new Chicago bishop, Katharine Jefferts Schori declared that the American church will not stand alone in its support of gay clergy during an international meeting in July in Lambeth, England.

Bishop Conveys Message of Activism
Rob Johnson, The Roanoke Times
Calling for economic evangelism and political advocacy, the Most Rev. Katherine Jefferts Schori, elected leader of the nation's 2.7 million Episcopal Church members, roused an audience of her denomination's regional leaders in Roanoke on Saturday.
"Pester your legislators" to be more aggressive in battling poverty and hunger across the globe, urged Jefferts Schori. "Annoy them."

On Lambeth 1.10
by the Rev. Lee Shaw
Is any one else tired of Lambeth 1.10 being held up as being delivered on
Mt. Sinai, carved in stone and presented to the people of God. (A flaming bush
is optional.) Or, spoken by our Lord as part of the Great Commandment and
Great Commission to his followers.

An Uneasy Fit
the Rev. Frederick Quinn
"Despite the 'everybody wants a covenant' language introducing the document in the Anglican Communion website, nobody really wants a covenant except proponents of centralized authority." In fact, "[c]ovenants historically were rejected by Anglicanism, as they should be today," according to the Rev. Frederick Quinn, priest and retired senior Foreign Service Officer, who worked closely with Chief Justice Warren Burger on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution, as constitutional adviser to several Eastern European governments and in embassies in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. He is the author of numerous books on law, religion and history.

The Episcopal Church as Prophet to our Day
by the Rev. Brian C. Taylor, St Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, Albuquerque, NM
In today's gospel Jesus places himself firmly in the long tradition of Jewish prophets who came before him. Herod, the Jewish puppet king who collaborates with the Romans, is apparently out to kill Jesus. The Temple authorities and the Roman leaders - the whole domination system - is ready to do away with this troublesome prophet. Why?
